The natural and induced space environment can cause a range of problems for spacecraft and space missions. Environmental factors include the natural radiation belts, solar energetic particles, cosmic rays, plasmas, gases, and 'micro-particles'.
The SPENVIS system provides tools for analysis of the space environment and its effects, with easy navigation between models, user input, graphical and textual results, and extensive help and background pages.
The system is continually extended. Please use the 'Models' button for an overview of current and future features.
SPENVIS evaluates the following effects:
- ionising dose: SHIELDDOSE and SHIELDDOSE-2
- non-ionizing energy loss ( NIEL )
- solar cell damage- equivalent fluences: EQFRUX for Si and GaAs
- single-event upset rates from cosmic and solar ions and trapped and solar protons (CREME)
Space craft or solar cell coverglass shielding is taken into account.
