I am extremely pleased to provide the attached Press Release from the newly formed AGS (African Geophysical Society). This African organization is finally launched and underway. In the coming years and decades I hope you will assist it whenever you can. It is long overdue. It is, in short, "necessary". Global space weather research must have African science and therefore African scientists/engineers.
Although AGS covers many fields other than space weather, space weather is a very important component of AGS. This is where it overlaps with ISWI and this is why I am excited today to furnish this Press Release to the entire ISWI community. To some extent, AGS is a product of IHY and of ISWI because IHY/ISWI forums enabled relevant persons to meet face-to-face, and to engage with one another. So we can safely assert that six years of IHY and ISWI have several legacies to be proud of.

MY HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THEM ! ... but the hard part comes hereafter. In ten years, where will AGS be? I hope all the plans, targets, visions, and dreams, are huge. Accordingly, Lady and Gentlemen, Bon Voyage! The young geophysicists of Africa look to you for guidance, wisdom, courage, and results. Fail them not.
